Celtic folk with bluesy twists - possibly one of best examples would be Rory Gallagher's Jig. Written by the extraordinary piper Gordon Duncan this track features 4 different tunes with RG Jig being the second tune. First tune is Edinburgh City Blue with Dave Moir and John swapping blues licks on resonator slide guitar. Into Rory Gallagher's Jig in 6/8 time with John and Dave playing in unison, Brian Shiels on double bass laying down some grooves and Spider MacKenzie starting to lay down some blues chops. More of this groove with the trad tune Banks of the Allan and then leading into Off the Tracks, a blues tour de force, with Spider blowing exquisite and powerful blues harmonica over this raw blues groove. Rory Gallagher's Jig: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw9IxxoXWWA
"In 2009, Scottish flatpicker John Carnie became the first to translate the Rory Gallagher's Jig to guitar, performing the tune to thunderous applause at the annual U.K Rory Gallagher tribute at the Cavern Club in Liverpool. Probably the first time a bagpipe tune was ever played in the Cavern! " shadowplays.com/blog/?tag=john-carnie
